There are many opportunities and resources available for students on campus. Many on-campus offices and departments offer resources supporting students looking to gain experience in the sustainability field, including financial support and career development resources.

Office of Education Abroad: Sustainability and Study Abroad Resource
The Office of Education Abroad provides a resource for environmentally conscious students who want to ensure their travels while studying abroad are sustainable and have minimal negative impacts on the natural world. This webpage provides tips for making sustainable choices while abroad, the idea of a “carbon footprint,” and ways to reduce yours, and how sustainability is approached internationally.
Student Green Fund: Charlotte Green Initiative
The Charlotte Green Initiative is the student green fund at UNC Charlotte, allocating approximately $60,000 a year towards sustainable projects on campus. Any UNC Charlotte student, staff, or faculty member can submit a proposal for an event or project that benefits Charlotte students and supports sustainability initiatives on campus.
The all-student committee meets weekly throughout the academic year and accepts proposals submitted before the final weeks of the Spring semester. If you have an idea for a project but need help developing a proposal, the committee hosts grant writing workshops throughout the year and provides resources on their website to help you with the process.
Department of Earth, Environmental, and Geographical Sciences Resources
The Department of Earth, Environmental, and Geographical Sciences (EEGS) offers scholarships, degree programs, courses, and research opportunities to undergraduate and graduate students, including a new Sustainability undergraduate Minor program beginning in Fall 2026. Their resources page highlights these opportunities and provides additional information to get involved with the department.
