Many groups in the Charlotte region host events and opportunities open to anyone interested in getting more involved with sustainability in the community. You can find a list of upcoming events and opportunities below. This list will be updated as new events are scheduled. For nonprofit groups that host multiple events that often recur throughout the year, there is a pull-down menu with details for each group.

NC Wildlife Federation Charlotte Wildlife Stewards Events – Summer 2026
Screening: The Little Things That Run The World

Date: Tuesday, June 9, 6:30pm – 8:45pm
Location: Independent Picture House, Charlotte, NC
Celebrate Pollinator Month by joining Charlotte Wildlife Stewards for a FREE screening of The Little Things That Run The World. This story highlights how some of the smallest creatures on earth, insects, are the glue that holds our world together.

Bumble Bee Atlas Survey

Date: Monday, June 22, 9am – 12pm
Location: Clarks Creek Nature Preserve (5542 Hucks Rd. Charlotte, NC 28269)
Join NCWF Charlotte Wildlife Stewards Chapter, NCWF staff, and Central Carolinas Master Naturalist volunteers to participate in a Xerces Society Bumble Bee Atlas survey. The Atlas is a community science initiative aimed at gathering important data needed to track and conserve bumble bees! We are continuing with our efforts from last year at Clarks Creek Nature Preserve.
Moth Night

Date: Tuesday, June 23, 8:30pm – 11:30pm
Location: Reedy Creek Nature Center (2986 Rocky River Road, Charlotte, NC 28215)
Join CWS and Lenny Lampel, Natural Resources Supervisor with Mecklenburg County (resident insect expert), for an exciting night of mothing. As the sun goes down, lights and sheets will be set up to attract native moths, and you’re certain to see some moths you’ve never seen before. Not only are moths great pollinators, but they are also an important food source for our breeding birds!
Screening: The Extraordinary Caterpillar

Date: Saturday, July 18, 1pm – 4pm
Location: Independent Picture House, Charlotte, NC
TO KICKOFF NATIONAL MOTH WEEK, join NCWF Charlotte Wildlife Stewards Chapter for a special screening of The Extraordinary Caterpillar! This powerful film reveals the essential, yet often overlooked, role caterpillars play in sustaining life on earth. Featuring leading voices like Doug Tallamy, Sam Jaffe, and David Wagner, the documentary illustrates how caterpillars are the engines of the terrestrial food web, feeding birds, supporting pollinators, and keeping ecosystems thriving. Thus, highlighting the urgent need for native plant and habitat restoration in our own yards.

Monthly Educational Programs

Monthly educational programs run from September through May and are offered in-person at Sardis Baptist Church and online. Occasionally, there will be a remote speaker, in which case the program will be online only.

Habitat for Humanity Events – Summer 2026
Youth and Young Professionals Volunteer Days

Dates: Multiple dates throughout the summer
Location: Various locations across the Charlotte Region
Looking for meaningful ways to make a difference? Habitat Charlotte Region offers a variety of volunteer opportunities for students, young adults, and youth groups. Opportunities include single-day volunteering at the ReStore, construction projects, or organizing a book drive; and ongoing opportunities, including internships and becoming a regular volunteer.

Innovation Barn Events – Summer 2026
Bee a Friend to Pollinators

Date: Friday, June 26, 5pm – 6:30pm
Location: Innovation Barn, 932 Seigle Ave, Charlotte, NC 28205
Celebrate National Pollinator Week at the Innovation Barn and learn about different pollinators and how important they are to the planet. This is an outdoor event in the food forest designed for kids, learning about pollinators, habitats, and helping to keep them safe. Come learn, have fun and spend some time outdoors celebrating these amazing creatures!
Free Public Tour

Dates: Tuesdays at 1 pm, Fridays at 11 am, and Saturdays at 1 pm
Location: 932 Seigle Ave Charlotte, NC
Innovation Barn tours are first-come-first-served for the first 20 individuals who sign up. On a tour of the Innovation Barn, you’ll experience firsthand how sustainability and innovation intersect to create a zero-waste future for Charlotte. The tour is approximately 45 minutes. Meet at the front desk inside the first set of glass double doors.
Circular Saturdays

Dates: Every Saturday, 11am – 4pm
Location: 932 Seigle Ave Charlotte, NC
Circular Saturdays are a great way to engage with the Innovation Barn and experience sustainability in action. Stop by to grab a coffee, explore the Barn at your own pace, or sign up for a guided tour to learn more about our circular economy initiatives. They also offer hands-on workshops where you can dive deeper into topics like upcycling, composting, and zero-waste living.

Sustain Charlotte Events – Summer 2026
Discover Charlotte

Dates: Saturday, June 20, 10am -12pm; Thursday, Sept 10, 6pm – 8pm
Locations: Various neighborhoods across Charlotte
Join Sustain Charlotte for a fun and eye-opening series of neighborhood walk and bike adventures! Each event spotlights a different Charlotte neighborhood, where you’ll explore local gems and hear directly from residents about what makes their community unique—and the sustainability and equity challenges they’re working to address. Along the way, connect with fellow sustainability champions, enjoy light refreshments, and learn from local experts in engaging, accessible ways that make big ideas feel practical and inspiring.

Sustain Charlotte Ambassador Training

Date: Thursday, June 24, 6pm – 7:30pm
Location: South Park Regional Library (community room) 7015 Carnegie Blvd
Charlotte, NC 28211
Join Sustain Charlotte for a volunteer training to become an ambassador for Sustain Charlotte!
This free training session will last approximately 1.5 hours at the South Park Regional Library’s community room. Volunteers will be guided through an initial staff presentation about the mission and history of Sustain Charlotte and learn about efforts being taken today to generate a healthier, more equitable, and vibrant community. Light dinner provided.
Party in the Park: An Annual Celebration

Date: Saturday, July 18th, 11am – 1pm
Location: Kilborne Park, 2600 Kilborne Drive, Charlotte, NC
Join Sustain Charlotte for a drop-in cookout and summer social! This is a FREE cookout thanks to the wonderful community of Sustain Charlotte followers! There will be burgers, hot dogs, vegetarian options, chips, cake, and non-alcoholic drinks. Feel free to stop by anytime between 11:00am to 1:00pm.

City of Charlotte Landscape Management
Tuckaseegee Arborteum & Gardens (TAG) Opening Celebration

Date: Saturday, June 20, 9am – 12pm
Location: Tuckaseegee Arboretum & Gardens: 701 Tuckaseegee Rd Charlotte, NC 28208
TAG is located on the grounds of City of Charlotte Landscape Management and is home to a wide variety of native and adapted woody shrubs and trees, a pollinator garden, and several urban landscape demonstration gardens. On June 20th, TAG will be officially open to the public. Join the City of Charlotte Landscape Team to celebrate with live music, a kids’ activity zone, face painting, food trucks, garden tours, and pollinator planting demonstrations!
Pollinator Week Safari at TAG: An Up-Close Garden Adventure

Date: Tuesday, June 23, 10am – 12pm
Location: Tuckaseegee Arboretum & Gardens, 701 Tuckaseegee Road
Charlotte, NC 28208
Join the City of Charlotte Landscape Management team at the Tuckaseegee Arboretum & Gardens (TAG) demonstration pollinator habitat for a hands-on Pollinator Week celebration. Participants will enjoy a guided tour of our arboretum and pollinator gardens and learn how native plants support bees, butterflies and other beneficial species, led by our community’s favorite bug expert, City Arborist Laurie Reid.

Pollinator Pit Stop Garden Workday

Date: Saturday, June 27, 9am – 12pm
Location: Veterans Park, 2136 Central Avenue, Charlotte, NC 28205
Central Carolinas Master Naturalists and the North Carolina Wildlife Stewards Charlotte Chapter will hold a volunteer workday at the Veterans’ Park Pollinator Pitstop, located just down from the Carolina Panthers Fitness Court. Volunteers will remove Bermuda grass and other weeds from the pollinator garden and a few other projects. Please bring your favorite pair of gardening gloves and, if you have one, your favorite weeding tool – some tools may be available.
Charlotte Department of Transportation Free Bicycle Skills Class Series

Dates: Multiple throughout the year, check website for dates
Location: Various locations across Charlotte or virtual
Throughout the year, CDOT hosts free bike skills classes taught by a certified instructor. Covered topics vary, but each hands-on class ends with a short group ride to practice skills.

City of Charlotte Stormwater Services Volunteer Days

Dates: Every second Saturday and last Thursday of the month
Location: Various locations across the Charlotte region
Come help us keep our surface waters pollution-free! CMSWS hosts a volunteer event twice per month, as well as some additional events throughout the year. Events include: stream cleanup, storm drain marking, and tree maintenance.
Mecklenburg County Parks & Recreation Opportunities

Dates: Multiple through the Summer
