Office of Sustainability Positions

Students can gain work experience through the Office of Sustainability. The descriptions below are not job advertisements, as position openings will be listed on Hire-a-Niner.

The Office is not currently hiring for student positions. Please check back for updates summer 2025.

The Office of Sustainability hires student hourly workers for the two jobs listed below. Position openings generally occur before the start of each semester and the summer term.

  • EcoRep: Conduct peer-to-peer outreach for campus sustainability goals and programs. Apply training on effective techniques to interact with peers, inform others and help them take action. Plan and support campus events and initiatives. Support events that are maximizing recycling and composting of waste generated at campus events. Must be able to work on scheduled event dates.
  • Sustainability Analyst: Assist the Office of Sustainability staff in assessing and promoting sustainability efforts on campus. Duties include analysis and reporting, event support and working with student organizations. Specific projects and tasks will be determined by a student’s skills and interests. Depending on the skills needed, these positions are occasionally advertised for graduate students.

Center for Wellness Peer Health Educator

Peer Health Educators serve to educate the student body on wellness resources, how to live healthy lifestyles, and ways to achieve their goals through educational presentations and campus events. Students interested in becoming a peer health educator must successfully apply, interview, and participate in training to hold the role. Students will enroll in HLTH 3202 for the Fall semester. Applications for Fall 2025 will open in early 2025.

UNC Charlotte Botanical Gardens Outdoor Garden Assistant

Assist the gardeners in the 10-acre botanical gardens (on-campus) with care of paths, planting beds, trees, and shrubs.  Duties include mulching, raking, spreading gravel, weeding, planting, watering, mowing, and trimming. Experience with mowers, trimmers, and other landscape equipment is preferred but not required. On-the-job training by gardeners and staff is provided.

Venture Outdoor Leadership VOLT Student Apprentice

Students are trained to facilitate team-building programs and lead adventure trips. This unique employment opportunity is experiential in nature, so you can expect to not just learn about leadership, but do the work of leading. To apply, students must first take KNES 1231: Introduction to Outdoor Adventures.
