Join a student organization
There are over 30 sustainability-related student clubs, organizations, and committees that are open to all UNC Charlotte students. If you are interested in volunteering and serving the campus and Charlotte community, plugging into a student organization is a great first step!
Student organizations can also join the Adopt-a-Spot program, which allows groups to “adopt” an area on campus to clean regularly during the academic year. Learn more about this program on the Adopt-a-Spot page.

work on campus

The Office of Sustainability, along with many other offices on campus, hires students to work part-time during the semester. This is a great opportunity to connect with staff and faculty on campus, and build your professional portfolio! The Office of Sustainability hires EcoReps each fall and spring semester.
All positions are posted on Hire-a-Niner.
fund your campus project or event
The Charlotte Green Initiative is the student green fund at UNC Charlotte, allocating approximately $60,000 a year towards sustainable projects on campus. Any UNC Charlotte student, staff, or faculty member can submit a proposal for an event or project that benefits Charlotte students and supports sustainability initiatives on campus.
The all-student committee meets weekly throughout the academic year and accepts proposals submitted before the final weeks of the Spring semester. If you have an idea for a project but need help developing a proposal, the committee hosts grant writing workshops throughout the year and provides resources on their website to help you with the process.

expand your professional network

Many local sustainability-oriented organizations off campus offer extracurricular professional development opportunities for students, including internships, research, conferences, and more!
