We support student learning by sharing assessments of courses and degree programs that integrate sustainability into the curriculum. We also share information and resources that enrich the student experience and prepares them for the complex social, economic, and environmental challenges the world faces today.

Resources and opportunities for students include:

Courses

With hundreds of sustainability-related courses across the undergraduate and graduate levels, there is something for everyone.

The course lists linked below were generated following criteria from the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE), and an assessment of the courses offered in 2022-2023. AASHE distinguishes two types of courses:

  • Sustainability-focused: courses with a primary and explicit focus on sustainability and/or major sustainability challenges.
  • Sustainability-inclusive: courses that have a different primary focus but include sustainability content.  This could be a unit or module on sustainability/sustainability challenges, sustainability-focused activities, or integrating sustainability challenges, issues, and concepts throughout the course.
Majors & Programs

UNC Charlotte offers sustainability-related degrees and programs across all levels of education from undergraduate to graduate to continuing education. The programs included in the list below feature sustainability themes and/or sustainability learning outcomes.

While this list is a helpful place to start, today’s sustainability challenges are far-reaching and interdisciplinary. People from all areas of study can contribute.
